The Cotswold International Polo Day is one of the biggest feature events in Cirencester Park Polo Club's calendar. The day brings together two of the most prestigious tournament finals in polo - 'The Warwickshire Cup' and 'The Ladies’ International'. Both tournaments will showcase some of the best polo talent from around the world and are guaranteed to provide a thrilling day of polo for everyone.
The Warwickshire Cup is the most famous trophy at Cirencester Park Polo Club, and one of the most desirable trophies to win in British Polo. It has been at Cirencester since the early 1950’s when polo started again after WWII and was loand to the club from the HPA. It originates from the pre-WWI Warwickshire Polo Club at Leamington Spa. It is a magnificent large trophy with embossed polo scenes. After its original home closed down and until it arrived at Cirencester, the trophy's history is shrounded in mystery, but it is believed to have been used as a polo trophy under various names at the Rugby and Hurlingham Clubs prior to WWII.
Everyone is welcome!
The Cotswold International Polo Day is open to everyone and the Club warmly welcomes non-members, who can buy a tcket for the day on the gate. It is an unforgettable and fabulous family day out all round, and set in the grounds of the beautiful Bathurst Estate, the surroundings are spectacular!
As well as the exciting games of high-goal polo, there is a fabulous shopping village with pop-up food stalls, and there will be the charity 'Support Dogs' demonstrating throughout the day how their incredible dogs are trained to help people with disabilities, autism and epilepsy live more independent lives.
There will be a full complimentary programme available on the day explaining all you need to know about the event and the game of polo itself.
After the last game, there is the 'Cotswold International Day After Party', courtesy of Royston Prisk and DJ Paul Linney for those wanting to make a night of it.
Gates open at midday for lunch and shopping in the trade stand village. At 12.30pm there is a Polo150 charity match between a team from PoloAfrica and a team from the British Army, in celebration of 150 years of modern polo. WHAT TO WEAR
Dress code is smart for the Member's Enclosure, and casual for the picnic areas. For ladies, it is best to wear shoes suitable for walking on grass. If the weather is hot, it is a good idea to bring hats and suncream as there is little shelter for people picnicking.
Well-behaved dogs are very welcome at Cirencester Park Polo Club, but please do not allow them to stray and please clear up after them.
TREADING IN THE DIVOTS
The long-standing tradition of ‘treading in the divots’ halfway through each game is always great fun - visitors, including children and dogs, all congregate on the field to tread back in the clumps of turf kicked up by the ponies’ hooves during play. The commentator will also announce when to tread in the divots.
Polo is a very fast sport, especially at this International level, so it is very important that ALL spectators (and dogs) stay behind the safety lines during play.
In the event of bad weather, there is a limited covered area for Picnic Pass holders, under the awning of a large marquee. For visitors in the Member's Enclosure, there is both the Clubhouse and the Ivy Lodge Marquee.
